Gyeon WetCoat and CanCoat EVO — What They Do and When to Use Each
Both are Gyeon professional products used on ceramic-coated vehicles. Both are SiO2-based. Both improve gloss and hydrophobicity. But they're different products designed for different stages of your maintenance routine — and understanding the difference helps you get the most out of your coating.
Gyeon Q²M WetCoat — The Quarterly Booster
Gyeon Q²M WetCoat is an SiO2-based spray coating designed to be applied to a clean, wet vehicle immediately after washing — before drying. It's sprayed onto the surface panel by panel and rinsed off straight away. The reaction happens during the rinse, not after. You don't wipe or buff it. The simplicity is the point.
What it delivers is a restored hydrophobic layer — improved water beading, stronger self-cleaning behaviour and enhanced gloss — that lasts for approximately 2 to 3 months under normal conditions, according to Gyeon's own product specifications. It bonds to the existing coating's surface and essentially gives it a fresh functional layer.
It can be used on paint, trim, wheels and glass — making it genuinely versatile for a full exterior treatment in a single session. On a coated vehicle, it works with the base coating rather than on top of it in the traditional sense — it bonds temporarily to the coating's surface and degrades gradually over the following weeks, which is why quarterly reapplication makes sense.
WetCoat in brief
- → Type: SiO2 spray-on, rinse-off maintenance booster
- → Application: Spray onto wet surface, rinse immediately
- → Durability: Approximately 2–3 months
- → Surfaces: Paint, trim, wheels, glass
- → Best used: As part of a quarterly maintenance service
Gyeon Q² CanCoat EVO — The Annual Topcoat
Gyeon Q² CanCoat EVO is a different product in a different category. It's a professional-grade SiO2 ceramic topcoat — not a spray-and-rinse maintenance product, but a coating in its own right that is applied to a fully decontaminated and prepared surface, then wiped and levelled before curing.
CanCoat EVO is designed to be applied as a standalone coating or, as we use it in our annual maintenance programme, as a topcoat over an existing base ceramic coating. Applied correctly to a properly prepped surface, it lays a fresh, durable SiO2 layer that performs for up to 12 months — with some professional applications exceeding this, depending on conditions and care.
The distinction matters: WetCoat refreshes the surface temporarily. CanCoat EVO renews the protective layer for a full year. They're not interchangeable — they work at different intervals in a maintenance programme and serve fundamentally different functions.
CanCoat EVO in brief
- → Type: Professional SiO2 ceramic topcoat
- → Application: Applied to prepped dry surface, wiped and cured
- → Durability: Up to 12 months (Gyeon rated)
- → Surfaces: Paint, trim, glass, wheels
- → Best used: As part of an annual renewal service
How They Work Together
In a structured maintenance programme, these two products work at different intervals to keep a base ceramic coating performing consistently throughout the year:
Why Professional Application Matters
CanCoat EVO in particular requires a properly prepared surface to bond correctly. Applied to a contaminated or oily surface, it won't adhere uniformly. Applied without iron decontamination, you're coating over embedded particles. This is why it's applied as part of our annual Topcoat Plus service — which includes the full decontamination and unclog treatment before the coating goes on.
WetCoat is more forgiving in application but still benefits from being applied after a proper pH neutral wash and decontamination. In a professional maintenance setting, the product's performance is consistently better than in casual DIY application, simply because the surface it's being applied to is genuinely clean.
